Why Should You Consider Custom Lasik
Custom Lasik surgery is a newer kind of Lasik vision correction procedure that utilizes wavefront technology to map the eye’s lower and higher aberration degrees. Thus custom Lasik is also called wavefront Lasik surgery. Unlike ordinary Lasik, wavefront Lasik utilizes precise measurement of an eye’s vision error and uses this measurement to guide the Excimer Laser used to reshape the cornea.
The degree of accuracy of custom Lasik makes it more advantageous than ordinary Lasik.
For instance, ordinary Lasik is only limited to correct lower order vision aberrations. That is to say ordinary Lasik is only capable of enhancing how much your eyes can see. It can correct lower-order aberration common to people with myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. It cannot correct contrast sensitivity for example.
Because custom Lasik isbased the correction on precise measurement using wavefront technology, it cannot only correct lower-order aberration, it can take care of higher-order aberration as well. That is to say that your vision will not only improve in terms of how much you can see it will also improve in terms of how well you can see. It can increase contrast sensitivity decreasing the chance of light sensitivity, glare, halos, or shadows.
Wavefront Lasik has a greater chance of achieving 20/20 vision or even better compared to ordinary Lasik. Vision quality is greatly increased with custom Lasik so that patient’s vision problems in dim light or night vision problems can be solved. This is because the laser uses the precise measurement of the lower- and higher-order aberrations to guide it in reshaping the cornea. Wavefront Lasik is also used to correct previous complications from ordinary Lasik, RK, PRK, and other surgical vision correction methods.
Thus, if you can afford to pay a little more money than the usual cost of ordinary Lasik, it pays to get a custom Lasik instead. The benefits are clear within the first 24 hours after your surgery.
